Talibés are children who are sent by their family for several years in quranic schools or daaras. In the cities, they cannot work the land as they would do in the countryside, to supplement the daara’s supplies, and this situation leads them to beg for money in the streets. It exposes them to injury, disease and physical abuse.
The association Bonheur d’Enfant d’Afrique (“Happiness for African Children”) tries to provide relief by healing their wounds and diseases, giving psychological assistance, and giving them a sense of unity by creating a football team of their own, for exemple.
